Lawalong (Chatra) Wildlife Sanctuary

The Lawalong Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the state of Jharkhand and was once a part of state of Bihar, in central-north India. It is an important biodiversity region in the Jharkhand state, with a variety in flora as well as fauna.
The boundaries of the sanctuary are described naturally by the Chako Nala, Lilajan and Amanat Rivers in the West, Northwest and South sides respectively. The forest cover is of dry and moist to damp deciduous mixed with tropical shrubs and bamboo. The region is densely forested, as it is a catchment for three rivers and several streams.
History
The Lawalong Wildlife Sanctuary was registered in the Bihar Government Gazette in 1978, which was once a private Game reserve in the Kunda Estate of the Tikait, which was annexed by the Sate as per the legislation of 1952. Recent proposals aim to improve the Sanctuary management and improve the protection of the animal reserves of the region.
